Dr Ruth Brookman
Ruth is a Clinical Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Australian Clinical Psychology Association.
Ruth has a collaborative and empathetic approach. She began her professional training and experience as a speech pathologist in hospital and vocational rehabilitation settings. She has also worked as a case manager in criminal justice and child protection settings. She retrained as a Clinical Psychologist and has a special interest in working with older adults and caregivers of people with dementia. She is committed to fostering a supportive and safe environment for others, especially for those who may feel marginalised by their circumstances.
"As we age, we may experience a number of health challenges and adjustment issues. In addition, grief and loss may be quite overwhelming and difficult to cope with. For example, the diagnosis of dementia or the loss of a life-long partner can affect our self-esteem as well as our identity. While it is not unusual for these experiences to be associated with anxiety and depression, difficulties managing our mood are not a normal part of ageing, and professional assistance can help” Ruth.
Ruth is also an academic and researcher with the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development, at Western Sydney University. Professional memberships and a link to her publications can be seen below.
